How We Do It

We recognize the integral role that well-maintained spaces play in creating thriving communities. We seek to beautify the neighborhood, assist the community and reduce crime. Empty lots and vacant homes become overgrown and provide a place for homeless encampments, drug use and illegal dumping. When these spaces are maintained it creates a more beautiful and a safer neighborhood. Through our dedicated volunteers and community partnerships, we assist in the removal of blighted properties and we provide lawn care services for those who may lack the time, resources, or physical ability to maintain their lawns. By transforming neglected properties into vibrant and inviting spaces, we aim to foster a sense of ownership, unity, and opportunity.

We firmly believe that access to affordable and sustainable housing is essential for fostering strong and vibrant communities. Through our partnerships and programs, we strive to connect under-resourced families with valuable assistance, such as financial aid and homebuyer education. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, many neighborhoods were unable to recover fully which left these areas with blighted properties, economic obstacles and a lack of neighborhood identity. We aim to restore neighborhoods, strengthen the community and provide housing stability by developing affordable housing opportunities.

We are actively creating employment opportunities through home building, property maintenance, and other community development initiatives. Within communities like ours, job creation has a massive ripple effect, fostering economic stability and growth. It not only reduces unemployment rates but also stimulates local businesses as employed individuals have more purchasing power. As neighborhoods thrive with increased economic activity, the overall quality of life improves, leading to safer, more vibrant communities.
Our Active Programs
Our City of Lights program installs LED string lights in the front on neighbors lawns at no cost to the homeowner. Our goals are to:
Reduce Crime: It has been shown that efforts to improve neighborhood street lighting contributes to increased safety perceptions and discourages crime.
Increase Sense of Community: By creating a unique signifier to the neighborhood we aim to increase the sense of community amongst neighbors. We also want to encourage residents that grassroots changes are achievable and we can accomplish community-driven change.
Increase Economic Opportunity: Provide 1-2 job opportunities for community members through the installation and maintenance of the lights.

Our Lawn Care program mows and maintains lawns and empty lots in the neighborhood. Our goals are to:

Our Brick by Brick program creates accessible pathways to homeownership for individuals and families in our community. Our goals are to:
Empower a Deserving Family: The homes we build will provide pathways to homeownership for deserving families and be a powerful tool to build generational wealth.
Invest in Future Community Leaders: The family chosen for this program will not only bring a desire for homeownership but also a passion for restoring the neighborhood. By becoming a long-term stakeholder in the neighborhood, they will play a vital role in shaping the fabric of the community.

As we began looking at the intricacies of the Hoffman Triangle, it became evident that a deep and clear understanding of the neighborhood was essential. Through a connection with Professor Michelle Thompson, PhD, who has a fervent love for both the city and its neighborhoods, we forged a collaboration with Professor Guang Tian, PhD, and his students from the Advanced Geographic Information Studies program at the University of New Orleans Department of Planning and Urban Studies (PLUS). The culmination of our partnership is the comprehensive findings presented here. This robust research study will allow for a better assessment and understanding of the needs of the Hoffman Triangle.
Our goal with this report is to allow for residents, other nonprofits, community organizations and city officials to have a clear understanding of the challenges and successes of the Hoffman Triangle and help bolster support for this vital neighborhood in the heart of New Orleans.
